Hunter is passionate about helping people lower their anxiety. Whether that shows up as high stress, never slowing down, or trouble sleeping, anxiety can be lowered and managed through therapy. Hunter works with young, middle, and older adults. He provides a solid foundation for those new to therapy and for those who have done therapy before. Above all else, he believes that boundaries are the best form of self-care. When he is not at work, he can be found at home playing video games, reading for pleasure, or working out. Some of his favorite things include listening to Chappell Roan, replaying Celeste, reading any book by R.F. Kuang, swimming laps, and eating cookie dough. 

 

Hunter received his Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University and his Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa in Aging and Longevity Studies. He is certified as a licensed mental health therapist through the state of Iowa. He practices using the following techniques: 

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): changing unhealthy thoughts to increase healthy behaviors

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I): changing negative thoughts about sleep to improve sleep quality

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): affirming, processing, and accepting uncontrollable life events

• Motivational Interviewing: empowering people to change using their unique strengths and resources

• Mindfulness: creating awareness through self-reflection
